It's been a rumor floating around the gaming community for months, but recently, Sony has confirmed that the PS3 Slim will be available everywhere by September 1st!
Each little rumor that we heard slowly brought us all to believe that it was coming, and now that it has been confirmed, we're going to share with you all that we know.
The Slim will be 33% smaller and 36% lighter (about 2.2 lbs) than the current model, will make less noise, and use less power. Worried about the price? Sony has confirmed that the Slim will cost as little as $299 (USD), making the console look affordable for one of the first times.

However, don't be expecting any major differences besides appearance, price, power use, and noise. Besides all of that, the system is very similar to the original PS3; not much new hardware wise.
The system does have its downsides as well; there is no PS2 backwards compatibility, two of the original system's USB ports have been removed, you are no longer able to install other operating systems, and lots more. With all of this put into perspective, it's probably not worth upgrading to if you already own a PS3; but if you don't, this might just be a good reason to buy one.
