F1 2009 Review
F1 2009

Platform: Wii™
Genre: Racer
ESRB: E (Everyone)
Release Date: November 16, 2009

Intro:

There is no question that the Wii has had no shortage of racing games - some good, some bad. F1 2009 is one of the first F1 racers to come to the Wii - and we think that it does a pretty good job.

Featuring many current racers, cars, teams, and courses; this game will not be collecting dust on your shelf.
Story:

As this is a racing game - there isn't much of a story. You can play in career mode, where you progress from team to team (throughout various seasons), but again, there is not much story involved in this game.

The most "story like" aspect of it is receiving offers from different teams.

Gameplay/Controls:

This is definitely F1 2009's strongest point. The first thing that hits you is that it really is a pick up and play game - you can delve right into it, and unlike many other racing games, there is no in game tutorial. The controls are relatively straightforward, though we found it to be much easier to play with the classic controller rather than using the Wii Remote's Accelerometer.

Gameplay is fun and fast pace, and one of the strongest factors is that this game simply doesn't lag - EVER. You can tell that there were some graphical sacrifices made, but nothing that truly takes away from the quality of the game overall. You can either choose to play single races at a time, or progress from team to team in the campaign mode. You can attend practice sessions and various other events all leading up to the race itself. Also, you can tune your car based on what track you are racing on - and this not only allows for an insane amount of customization, it makes racing a lot more fun and makes you feel more connected to the game.

You will find yourself using the brake a lot, as this is F1 racing, but don't worry - we still got a great sensation of speed. Overall, the physics of the game work well, however, the crashes can be somewhat unrealistic sometimes.

Graphics:

The graphics in F1 2009 are just right for the Wii; they push it to its limits while still allowing the game to run smoothly in complex scenarios. Many surfaces become blurred when you go fast, but this only adds to the sense of speed.

Everything is designed nicely, the cars look sharp, tracks look fairly realistic, and shadows/lighting looks good. You will find that many objects look highly pixelated, or "edgy", but overall, the cars and racing surfaces look good.

Music/Sound:

The sound in the game is good, there isn't that much music (besides on the title screen). The noise that your car makes changes as you modify it, and you have a race "coach" giving you tips throughout practice sessions.

Game Score:

1-Story: 2/10
2-Gameplay/Controls: 8.5/10
3-Graphics: 6.5/10
4-Music/Sound: 8/10
5-Replay Value: 8/10

Total Score: 6.6/10
